Who are we?
We're the Ratio system, a functional multiple system that's as dysfunctional as every "normal" family in this country.
There's Erik, the Team Dad*. He watches out for us, makes sure we don't get into trouble, and is better at organizing all our necessary tasks, though he doesn't to them often. Us whippersnappers need to figure things out for ourselves, dagnabit. He prefers to relax by playing piano, singing in performance choir, and yelling at kids to get off his lawn. For serious, he's actually done that.
Lawrence is a spunky age slider between the ages of nine and fourteen. He'd love to play a great many sports, but because of the body's limitations, he doesn't get to run around as much as he wants. Still, he remains active in the headspace, running down even some of the more high energy members. He pays more attention than most to what goes on in the meatspace.
Jonathan and Samuel are our "non-related twins," though they couldn't be further apart. Jonathan is big, blonde, and our gentle giant. He's quiet and patient, and tries hard to keep others calm and rational. Samuel, on the other hand, is a hot headed Brit who loves to argue for the sake of it. He says it keeps the mind sharp. Both boys love gaming, though its very much an offense vs defense kind of battle.
Jane brings an old-fashioned "womanly" touch to the group, attempting to fix our manners and our postures with a loving smile and a gentle touch. Lawrence has taken to it well. Samuel and I... not so much. Still, she lessens the severity of Erik and solves disputes with less forcefulness.
Sirrus is a fictive who's been around for a while. Instead of leaving Myst for Spire when he was 26, he left Myst and ended up in the headspace of a 15 year old girl. Resourceful and hard-working, Sirrus is the one keeping most of the system together. He is compassionate and cruel in equal measure. Mostly, though, he is a protector and will fight fiercely - yet subtly - to keep the system safe.
Sherlock is another fictive, this time from BBC's "Sherlock." Very much a loner, sometimes disappearing into the depths of headspace for days at a time, only reemerging when some interesting disaster in meatspace is going on. He is only close with Sirrus, but will tolerate Erik on occasion. One of the only headmates unable to front solo. Sherlock's primary entertainment comes from being a highly critical one-man peanut gallery.
And me? Call me Kosh. I'm what you might call the "original," but I don't claim fronting rights, I just happen to be out the most. I'm a spaztic Junior in college just trying to keep it together enough to get to class, do work, and enjoy life. You can mostly find me in a power chair or on a cane, but either way I'll probably run you over, sorry. Just keeping it all in perspective.
So, that's us, the Sitcom in a Brain, just with less stereotyping and more laze. We're functionally dysfunctional, but despite the arguments, we're family, and that's what counts, right?
*I apologize to anyone who gets lost on TVTropes because of this post. I wish you luck, my friends.
